Tiki Dolphin Show Sea World 1970s

I found a somewhat large collection of slides that was comprised of several amusement park and theme park visits. When I received the slides, I was stunned to see these images. This is the Sea World of my childhood. I vividly remember this part of the park and the dolphin show that took place in the theater. Growing up in San Diego, I would go to Sea World about four of five times a year including visits when in school as a field trip. It was always a fun park but a bit lacking in the rides. Now looking back at the park, it was a great themed park. The image below is amazing showing the tiki themed stage with an Olympic tie in! Oh these images are for Tangaroa, as I am sure he will appreciate them!

  1. At first, I thought I was looking at Adventureland! Today, you’d have a hard time getting me to spend a dime to go to Sea World; I think it’s pretty boring. My first trip there (that I remember) was in ’85, and I believe this tiki stuff was already long gone by then.

  4. One of these days (soon) I want to do a week of non-Disneyland parks. Not the most original idea, but I have some nice slides to share. Thanks for these Sea World views!

  6. By the way - H.R. Pufnstuff artist Wes Cook designed that awesome Tiki, as well as much of the Hawaiian Punch paviliion. That first shot is stunnig, how it captures both the dolphin show & the pavilion, with all that lush landscaping among the pathways the park once had. When they pushed out George MIllay, it all started to go downhill...

I live in San Diego and am a native Southern Californian who has spent a lifetime enjoying various theme parks. I have some original Wes Cook art and I am very happy to see that I am not the only one who can glance back in time to fond memories provided by Mr. Cook and other talented people. Thanks to all those who make things magical for the untalented. Sure, some parks are more exciting than others, however, if one person is touched by another's creativity and imagination - that, in my opinion, is better than any roller coaster.
