Four Interior Views of the Old Alice In Wonderland Attraction
Always late for a very important date was the Alice In Wonderland attraction. Opening in 1958, three years after the rest of Fantasyland was complete this attraction featured some of the wackiest interiors filled with impossible characters. And then the second version opened one year after the 1983 construction of New Fantsyland. The views seen in the slides are no longer in the attraction, especially the favorite upside down room. These slides are souvenir slides which unfortunately turn red over time.
those are some seriously amazing images.
ReplyDeleteWow! Patrick, are these PanaVue slides? I've never seen souvenir slides that showed great interiors like these!
ReplyDeleteholy crap! those are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThose are truly special images! I love the upside down room!
ReplyDeleteUnreal Shots! They ruined it in the 80's with bad blacklight paints and took the original Disney magic away (as usual) The ride's still OK on a Spencer Gifts level, but those photos are how I remember it. Viva Walt!
ReplyDeleteMatterhorn - Thanks so much for posting these - I luvs me some interior dark ride shots!
ReplyDeleteI have a vague remembrance of the old ride. I wish there was a way to truly restore the color on these old slides . Still, very cool! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I don't believe my parents ever took me on that attraction. It's fun to see, however I didn't realize that the sets looked so chintzy. My friend David Mumford worked on the '83 version, and I think he and the rest of the WDI crew did a beautiful job. Wish they could've kept the story of the upside down room tho.
ReplyDeleteTo Anonymous, your comment was so wrong, flammatory and mean-spirited that it's just laughable.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Pixiegirltink in agreeing that WDI did a great job with the 1984 revision.
After looking closely at the drawing of the original map there seems to
ReplyDeletehave been a room with vertical mirrors (rotating). I vaguely remember seeing this as a kid
along with the Caterpillar going down the long Mad Hatter table avoid hitting moving Tea Cups.
I actually preferred that original ride with tea party in center of attraction instead of at the end.
ReplyDeleteBut Disney thought it was a bit too dark. Ever since then they've been watering down the rides and charging more.
