The second image is one of the shops at the Adventureland Bazaar. It appears to be the Hawaiian shop with bright Hawaiian casual shirts hanging up on the edge of the roof. This is the only shot in the batch in which a family member appears. The rest are general scenic shots or with crowds. Up in the left hand corner is the Harper Goff window, but I cannot read if it is already painted to Harper. It does have the tattoo and banjo playing statement so it probably does.
Again - more great shots! Really like the more "primitive" or less slick of Adventureland back then.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, the hut looks kind of polynesian with the gaint clam shells. But it's right next to Schweitzer Falls, so it must be in Africa. (?)
ReplyDeleteThe Hawaiian shop...haven't even heard of that one. What a great photo, it screams "early Disneyland". Any idea when the Hawaiian shop was removed?
We have a few interior views of the Hawaiian Curio Shop taken in 1956. It was transformed shortly afterwards.
ReplyDeleteHey anonymous—where can we see your photos?
ReplyDeleteThey tell me I went to Disneyland twice before I was a year old. When I was two, we moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. I only found out around 2000 that Harper Goff was from there, and he put replicas of local buildings on Main Street USA. Last time I was back in Fort Collins, the local museum had a small exhibit on Goff, including a scenic Valley of the Jolly Green Giant that looked like the Bingham Hill area.

I expanded the image and looked at it, comparing it to a recent photo of the window. I am about 90% sure it has Harper's name in the center
