Since
Daveland has shown a couple posts of the Monsanto Home of the Future, I thought it was appropriate it to start showing the sign images taken in 1966 of the Home of the Future garden and outdoor display. The first two are directional signs with the red Monsanto logo on the bottom. The colors and use of plexiglass for the signs is amazing and works to create that future feel.
Keep up the cool signage, dude!
ReplyDeleteTrying to wrap my brain around which direction we are facing in picture #2 . . . .
ReplyDeleteLook at those great signs, I love the plexiglass. To think that they probably are in a landfill somewhere....
ReplyDeleteGreat series of signage shots, Patrick. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAlthough the house of the future still hasn't come to pass, it may have been more prophetic than we thought: no smoking, eating, or strollers in the house?
ReplyDeleteA Google for "Lustra Span" turned up one reference, from a State of Illinois document. Page 42 describes Monsanto's Lustra-Span as a "corrugated vinyl plastic for traffic control signs." Apparently, it was evaluated by the state in 1964.
