Parking Lot Tram Signs 1966

At Disneyland in 1966, guests leaving the park would come to one of these areas designated by the pictured signs to board the Parking lot tram and head out to their cars. I know everyone misses the signs and the parking lot and the old trams, same as I do. The sense of arriving has definitely changed with the new trams and new parking structure. But with the new park and new Downtown Disney, the Disneyland area has changed for the better, becoming closer to what Walt wanted to acheive in Florida...a true destination. But the loss of the Hotel Tram is pretty significant. Now if I could only find this sign for my collection.

  1. Wow, that last sign is really great. Reminiscent of some of the attraction posters that feature train silhouettes (Primeval World, Grand Canyon Diorama, Main Street Station). Awesome!

I love those old parking lot signs of the rides inside Disneyland. As a kid they really got me excited and hyped up to get into the park!

  3. oh, man! oh, man!!!

i've never seen those! how neato!

i have one of the metal silhouette signs from the main st horse cars. it's one of my favorite pieces.

it just goes to show the great length disneyland went to in giving its guests a quality experince. NOT because they expected a profitable return, but simply out of pride in their park.

disneyland was a passion that just happened to be a business.

that alone, is the biggest lesson for today's disney managment to learn. unfortunately, it's also why the parks are doomed.

  4. We all have a problem. We are moved by tram signs. I especially liked the trash receptor in one of the shots.

You can see the construction of the Anaheim Convention Center in the background of one of the shots.

If you notice on the Disneyland Hotel in the background, they have just(or are about to) finished construction on the other half of the Sierra Tower. The neon sign still says hotel Disneyland on top but the other half is in place. It does look like there is still work going on in the building though.
