Looking at the pictures of today's souvenir, you would think that this is a model kit blog. However in late 1955, Monsanto plastics promoted toys made out of plastic. The promotion was a contest to write a fourth line to a jingle extolling plastic used in toys. The winner would win a family trip to newly opened Disneyland. I have seen the contest slip by itself, but usually do not see the box and toy. Also the sticker on the front of the box is nice with the castle graphic. Even if you did not win the grand prize of a trip to Disneyland, many of the other prizes are nice.
This is a really neat find. One of the things I really enjoy about this corner of the collector community is the wide variety of items from seemingly-unrelated areas of interest that are all tied together by a common connection to Disneyland. That these seemingly-unrelated areas of interest also happen to coincide with my own personal areas of interest is a nice bonus. :-)
ReplyDeleteCool! I featured an HO scale church model kit from Plasticville with this same sticker in my blog (Stu's Attic) this week! Lol, great minds!

ReplyDeleteWhat a great little item. Interesting there were actually five First Prizes awarded. These times where essentially everyone is a 'loser' and there's only one, 'real' winner, no one would ever consider having more than one Grand Prize Winner.
ReplyDeleteI can see, however, I couldn't possibly have been one of the five winners, as I've always lacked "aptness of thought". Boy - those were clearly different times. (I wonder what the winning fourth lines turned out to be...)
"Those toys made of plastics are the toys for me."
