A slight traffic jam on Main Street in an early afternoon in 1959. Several of the Main Street vehicles are out on the street...the Horse Drawn Trolley, Fringed Surrey and behind the Trolley is the Horse Drawn Fire Wagon. The crowd appears to be fairly large and the lights on the shops are beginning to turn on.
I've been going to Disneyland for a long time, but I don't ever remember seeing the Surreys in person. It's too bad they didn't keep the attraction running.
ReplyDeleteStill amazed at how empty the streets were back then - plenty of room for vehicular traffic. Nowadays, we only see the motorized vehicles early in the mornings and I think the streetcars are done by the afternoon most days due to the crowds. The price of success, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI love this beautiful Kodachrome shot. This Disneyland is not around anymore, but man, I wish I could have seen it like this.
