Disneyland July 17, 2012 Ugly Bobsleds

Being the Disneyland obsessive person that I am, I visited Disneyland and California Adventure on July 17th. Not much celebration of the birthday at Disneyland except for the buttons the employees wore and a re-play of the opening day speech. I did ride the Radiator Springs Racers and found the attraction to be fun, I enjoyed the start of the ride with all the characters in Radiator Springs. The figures are very expressive and look like the characters from the film brought to real life. The outside part is good but not really a thrill ride. Here are some sights I thought were interestng. The Pacific Electric Trolley on Buena Vista Street.

Fun roadside sign in the line for the Radiator Springs Racer ride.

Fun sign at the Mater Tow Yard Jamboree (at least I think that is what they were calling it....)

I did head to Disneyland to ride the new Matterhorn Bobsleds. I am not happy with the new bobsleds...they are very ugly and uncomfortable. I am short and I did not have enough leg room, the seats are very hard and the Bobsleds are ugly, just plain ugly. The cool decal is now a small plaque at the front of the bobsleds.

To take the bad taste out of my mouth, here are two random shots of the cool lights in the Enchanted Tiki Room Garden.

  1. Matterhorn, Knowing that it's your favorite attraction, I value your opinion and thoughts on the Matterhorn. Thanks for affirming what I feel as well. At 6'4 it was an extremely uncomfortable ride. In addition the new bobsled design has no "cool" appeal whatsover.

What was once my 2nd favorite attraction is now off my list. I still love the Mountain, but not the ride anymore.

  2. That's disheartening to hear about the new bobsleds. The imagineers I'm sure get paid good money to do their job, so what were they thinking? An uncomfortable ride is not a fun ride.

Cool Cars Land "Research Facility" sign though.

  3. Wow, those bobsleds look just as uncomfortable as friends have described them to me! The 1959 bobsleds were so sleek and so gorgeous. Hopefully Disney will replace these with more comfortable bobsleds that more closely resemble the originals.

  4. Painful....that's what the new bobleds are! This was one of my all-time favorite attractions and now I can no longer ride it. It's a super rough ride.....actually quite jarring. At least the old bobsleds had some wiggle room and you could be slung around in your seat a bit on the turns and the seats were padded. Now the seats are hard with no padding and there is nowhere to be slung. You are locked into a postion.....a VERY uncomfortable position with your feet set into what may as well be "stirrups" and the new seats force you to sit uncomfortably on your tailbone instead of on your rear end. I have photos I took two years ago of one of these bosleds (or a prototype) sitting on the tracks. I'm assuming they were testing it out. What I want to know is who approves something like this? Was it the same person that approved Light Magic and Tomorrowland '98?

  5. It is just astonishing that the Matterhorn bobsleds could turn out so universally disliked. Imagine how many bright people worked on them, how much research was presumably done, etc. And here they are, a disaster that we will be stuck with for years.

Ditto all. One of my top favorites is one I don't want to ride anymore. (Sad.) It's been lawyered up like Alice in Wonderland and Luigi's Flying Tires.

they are very uncomfortable - hurting almost as much as trying to read white type on a black background

  8. I haven't been on them yet but all I hear is bad, bad, bad. Wow. I will be riding it (I have to because I want to) and as usual, will be blogging about it when I do. What a bummer though. Maybe if enough people complain, they will listen. Light Tragic disappeared from the Park, didn't it?

  9. Apparently cast members have been receiving quite a few complaints about the new sleds. This reminds me to send the park an unhappy e-mail. Let's get those ugly little beasts off the tracks!!
