An unusual and tough to find postcard from the long defunct amusement park Miracle Strip near Panama City, Florida is this view of their train to Tombstone Territory. The theming details are interesting, cliff dwellings in the background, emaciated cattle, but then a Northwest Pacific Indian Totem Pole and a Western depot with a lone cactus. Still I would have enjoyed visiting this park if it was still in existence.
I went to Miracle Strip Amusement Park a few times in the late '70s and early '80s, but I don't Have any recollection of this attraction. It certainly looks like something I would have enjoyed, so I suspect it was gone by then. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite an eclectic collection of symbolism. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome, how could you keep on driving past that?! I couldn't!
ReplyDeleteCheck out the Coke machine!
ReplyDeleteOutstanding card! Have never seen it before. Sure must be a rare one.
ReplyDeleteTombstone Territory, its train, and western town, were actually a separate attraction, not part of Miracle Strip. It's easy to get confused. In the 60s, there were at least THREE trains on the beach (maybe more), this one, a smaller train-to-nowhere at Miracle Strip, and an actual live-steam train to another western town attraction called "Petticoat Junction Railroad." This later spawned its own amusement park, not as big as Miracle Strip, but significant, complete with another wooden roller-coaster and an assortment of other standard rides.
