Posing Around the Park Part 2

A couple of more images featuring the family posing at variouos sites. The first shows a single person posing on the Mark Twain. Check out the clothing on the background visitors, lots of bright colors, plaids, textures and more.

Next up is the obligatory group shot in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. The 70's had such wonderful fashions!

Disneyland Trip Report- Timmy and Alice In Wonderland

While waiting to get on Alice in Wonderland which had just shut down due to movement inside the ride, one of the guests in line asked about the shut down and mentioned that it must have been a ghost. The cast member then said that the attraction was indeed haunted and the ghost was Timmy. Timmy is a ten year old boy who likes to step on the pressure pads to shut down the ride. The cast member related her story of how she was alone after the park had closed and was shutting down the ride. However, the pressure pads kept going off as Timmy kept stepping on the pads, causing issues. In honor of Timmy and the cast member, here are some images I took of Alice in Wonderland. The changes to the outdoor ride structure in case of emergency evacuation.

Loading a caterpillar.

The mushroom and current version of ride poster.

Exit sign with the handicapped entrance graphic. (The graphic reminds me of the band logo created for the movie High Fidelity.)

Attraction sign describing the adventure that awaits riders.

Trip Report- Trader Sam's at the Disneyland Hotel July 16

Since I am in California visiting Disneyland for the 56th Birthday, I headed to Trader Sam's Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Hotel. It is a nicely designed and decorated bar with drinks suited for a tourist spot (way too sweet and kind of gimmicky.) Here are a few shots. First up the exterior:

Doors to the entrance from Oceanic Arts.

Lovely light.

One of the best design pieces are the tiki's at the bar, based upon the chanting Tiki Room poles.

More design elements with a great megaphone. One of the character stories for the bar is the skipper Skip and this is his megaphone.

The view of the patio at torches at night.

Yours truly in the bar.

1973 Tomorrowland Event

Some sort of event that happened in Tomorrowland in 1973 was documented. The dress code appears to be business attire. Hey Jason- what does the nomenclature say for events in 1973?

Some interesting lines on the pavement and folding chairs to sit on. It appears this was at the Tomorrowland Stage. Notice the Flight to the Moon building in the background.

A nice shot of the great architecture and the lovely planters.

Souvenir Friday- 1957 Disneyland Hotel Rate Sheet

Nice rate sheet with Tinkerbell graphics from 1957.

And a cool photo of the old Disneyland Hotel sign. The photo is much later than the rate sheet.

Indian Dancers

What else can be said about these that Major Pepperidge has not already said?

World's Fair Wednesday= 1964-65 New York World's Fair Souvenirs

Not only do I collect photographs of the 1964-65 New York World's Fair, but also collect souvenirs. These three souvenirs are very nice and compact. First up is a bicycle license plate with the orange and blue color scheme and the Unisphere. Nice tag line of Peace Through Understanding. I can just imagine a a kid riding their Schwinn bicycle with this proudly attached to the bike.

The next two came from the same child. He or she saved the stickers and decal by placing them on wax paper. First up is an I was there sticker with great graphics of the various pavilions and attractions.

The final souvenir is an I was there decal with the Unisphere.

Cinco De Mayo In July

I love a vintage Disneyland parade and this one is very interesting. It appears that the parade was for a Cinco de Mayo celebration. First up is a dancer with an interesting tricycle float.

Next up is the horse color guard coming down Main Street in front of the Emporium.

Final image is of Chip (or Dale) driving a small Herbie the Love Bug go kart. I wonder if Bob Gurr had a hand in designing the vehicle?

Things From the Gate- 1966 and 1969 Disneyland Brochures

The 1966 brochure advertising Disneyland is the same as last week's Santa Fe version, the only change is the cover. Where the Santa Fe logo is on last weeks has the advertising line Your Guide to the Happiest Place on Earth.

The 1969 version has the same cover, but some changes to ticket prices up a quarter across the board, some changes to the Disneyland information and also the back has black printing instead of the blue on the 1966 version.

Tigger and Baloo

I always enjoy seeing adults interacting with the costumed characters. These photographs are nice and probably circa early 1970s. The Tigger is a nice orange not like the neon orange he is now.

The Baloo photograph is nice with the Big Game Shooting Gallery sign in the background. Also in the background is the Guatemalan Weavers.
