World's Fair Wednesday- To the Moon

Images from the Space Park are always fun to see. First up is part of the wall with a satellite.

A view of one of the first supersonic jets that propelled a pilot faster than the speed of sound. The planes were used to train Astronauts on flying fast and high, many earning astronaut wings this way.

A view of the Space Park with one of the satellites that visited the moon. Check out the kid in his bright red pedal car in the middle of the image.

This image shows off the nice landscaping around the Unisphere, the symbol of the fair.

  1. Love those photos of the U.S. Space Park. Check out how cold it must have been, based on the hats and coats!

  2. Really nice pictures of the space displays, and very few people out and about. Judging from the colors of the last picture, maybe it is the last waning days of fall.

  3. Nice pictures. These are probably from either very early or very late in the 1965 season. It sure looks chilly as was said, plus that's the 1965 version of the X-15. That mock-up is still around! http://www.pimaair.org/collection-detail.php?cid=213

The red car in the one shot is a Hertz stroller. Remember the "Let Hertz put you in the drivers seat" ads? They used that at the fair, with those really great looking car-shaped strollers. So far none of them have turned up after the fair. Too bad as one would make a great collectible!
