Heading North to a competitor to Disneyland, we visit Frontier Village that was once located in San Jose, California. The park was a great western themed that was opened in 1961 after the owner went to Disneyland in 1959. The park had a nice relaxed feel and some interesting rides. Several of the designers who worked on the park had experience from Disney. First up is the cover of the brochure with some great flat style graphics.
The brochure opens up to present information on the park and more great graphics. The brochure has artwork and is designed by Paul B. Murphy.
Once again, the folder opens up to a map of the park along with some ride artwork.
The last page is for mailing the brochure.
Frontier Village is now a housing development. And, if I remember correctly, there's a reference to the name.
ReplyDeleteThat is super cool. I've never heard of it. I miss the days when there were lots of theme parks. Seems nowadays it is either Disney or Six Flags, no little independents anymore.
ReplyDeleteSuper neat; my two brothers and my sister all wound up in the San Jose area, but I didn't hear about Frontier Village until it had just closed. ARG! I have a pinback button and one or two items from here I should share on my bloggy blog.
ReplyDeleteWow, Haunted House Island sounds really cool! I wonder if they ever built it?
ReplyDeleteI've never even heard of this place, but boy am I loving that art work - wow! Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteI think my mom has pix of me at Frontier Village when I was a kid. I'll have to dig thru her closets next time I pay a visit.
ReplyDeleteThere's a big resemblance to many of the buildings and (rides) at The Land of Makebelieve park (1953-1979) in New York -- in the Adirondack Mountains.......I wonder if it was the same developers?? Pictures of this park appear in operation, concept art and ruins in the book FUN ALONG THE ROAD -American Tourist Attractions.
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVED Frontier Village. I grew up in Sunnyvale and in addition to regular trips to FV, my father's business always had their summer picnics at FV (with huge BBQ areas and picnic tables). It was a wonderful little park with fabulous theming. I can still remember the smell of the water from the Mine ride.
ReplyDeleteMan, that would have been a blast!

ReplyDeleteI grew up in nearby Fremont and Frontier Village was a favorite place to visit. So many wonderful, happy memories were shared here. It was a beautiful little park with fun rides, a great vibe and friendly employees. I loved the trout fishing pond and the saloon. Just a perfect place for a family to spend the day.
