Posing In Front of the Chicken of the Sea Restaurant

A popular place to pose for photographs was in front of the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship restaurant in Fantasyland. A lot of the photo groups I find have at least one image of the family (or parts of the family) posing. First up is the female part of one family...Grandma, Mom, older and younger sister posing in the outdoor dining area of the restaurant in 1958.

Next up is mom and son posing on the faux beach that used to be by the restaurant. Note the lovely souvenirs that have been purchased...mom holds a rare Mickey Mouse Club Circus pennant and the young boy holds and Indian Spear and brandishes a Tomahawk.

Here is a close up of the pennant. What is interesting is the photograph is dated February 1957 (almost a year and a couple of months after the circus performed at Disneyland.)

  1. Great photos. Maybe the Circus pennants were in the 5¢ bucket along with the Phantom Boat pennants?

  2. Typical of the day to leave a bunch of undeveloped film roles sit around in the junk drawer. Then: Opps! We should have sent those down to the Save-On drug and see what's on them.

I found an old Kodacolor roll in a drawer, and it turned out to be about 15 years old, and really great pics of my young daughters. What a treat!

  3. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing as CoxPilot... I know that my mom used to leave film rolls sitting in a drawer for a while sometimes. But it wouldn't surprise me if they decided to continue to sell off those pennants!

I'm sure you wouldn't mind finding one of those in some yard sale.

  5. Double dittos Connie... I bet that sand was a mess to keep off the pavement and out of the lagoon.
