Going back to when I was a Senior in High School, George Orwell was once again popular and the Olympics were in Los Angeles, Disneyland celebrated Olympic Spirit. A highlight for many high school bands was to march at Disneyland. I am not sure where this high school was located, but the band and color guard did get to perform at Disneyland. The nice thing for these slides are the great long gone stores on Main Street. Check out the Town Square restaurant in the background.
Plaza Pavilion with the great mature trees. I understand the reason for cutting back and down the trees for viewing, but I do miss them as it gave Main Street an early turn of century look.
Check out Rings and Things as well as the Sun Sweet dried fruit and nuts in these next two pictures.
In front of the Opera House.
Final image is in front of the Train station. I still miss the large trees.....
WOW...1984 is when I first discovered annual passes! I had forgotten all about the raisins and dried fruit - it was one of my favorite places to pop in and grab a bag to snack on! I agree with you about the trees - it's a darn shame.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I remember eating at what was then called the Egg Hut or Egg House on Main Street back in the late 70s. I didn't realize that a reataurant was still there in the 80s!
"I'd like two rings, and a bag of things".
ReplyDeleteThat was also the 50th anniversary of Donald Duck. I remember trying to keep as much ephemera as possible from that celebration.
ReplyDeleteShout out to the Black Tornados from (North) Medford High School, Medford Oregon!

Agree, the loss of the trees is sad. Especially if cut so the fireworks show could be seen. I remember the old fireworks were just a few minutes, like the cherry on the top, now it's the whole banana split.
