In the late 1980s a friend of mine worked at Disneyland in the Disneyana shop. In order to show guests who came in and asked questions, my friend requested press photographs of the park and of the characters in the park. When my friend left the park, he took the photographs with him. There are some nice photographs, especially of some of the more obscure costumed characters. This set of character makes very rare appearances at Disneyland, but I still like seeing them.
I love the more obscure characters. When I was in Fantasy On Parade back in the early eighties, there was an entire Robin Hood unit complete with Maid Marian, the Sheriff of Nottingham and even a small "stuffed" Sir Hiss popping out of the back of Prince John's coach!
ReplyDeleteA lot of the Robin Hood characters still make daily appearances at Disneyland Paris, although it's been a while since I've seen Robin himself and Little John.
ReplyDeleteRobin Hood is an exceptionally good likeness! The other two aren't bad either.
ReplyDeleteIn the scheme of things, "Robin Hood" was a mediocre movie, but it's a personal favorite of mine, done in the sunset of an era.
ReplyDeleteI was the first to wear the friar tuck costume in the fantasy on parade in the summer of I believe 1973. I was 16 and we had many bugs to work out with seeing out of the head. The first night was a practice run and the eyes fogged up so bad that I was running into the tin soldiers and had to lift it to see. They put the mesh in the eye areas and cut nostril holes in the nose and all was good. Still the coolest job I ever had at $1.85 an hour.
