Cast Member for A Day

A fun photograph of the times when Disneyland had a contest that allowed a guest to be a cast member for a day. What you have not heard of this? Here is proof, a nice Grandmotherly looking guest wears the motorman hat and takes the wheel of the antique automobile.

Things From the Gate- 4th Annual Dixieland at Disneylant Ticket Brochure

Another 1963 brochure is this nice one featuring advertisement for the 1963 4th Annual Dixieland at Disneyland. Brochure is dated 9/63. Cute graphics as usual on the brochure. There is just something about the late 1950s and 1960s spot art.

Disneyland In Natural Color- Part 4

Due to technical issues, only one image today. It is a nice view of Sleeping Beauty Castle, or as the photographer titled it Entrance to Fantasyland.

Disneyland in Natural Color- Part 3

Two views of the sternwheeler Mark Twain in Frontierland. First up is the Twain leaving. In the distance can be seen one of the Keel Boats. Also the forest has not grown up at all.

The Twain has now completed it's round trip through the Rivers of America and around Tom Sawyer's Island. Both views really show off the design and prettiness of the Mark Twain.

Souvenir Friday- Decals

Years ago happy travelers would purchase souvenir decals to place on their cars, luggage or just to save. Many vintage 1960s car windows were adorned with these decals. Disneyland had several different decals available during this time period. First up is a nice large design featuring the gang, Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy.

Knott's Berry Farm also had their own souvenir decals. This one features the old prospector and his mule.

The last decal shows that even small theme parks had their decals. The saying on the wall cracks me up...

1955 In Natural Color Part 2

More images from stereo realist slides taken in 1955. The photographer enjoyed Main Street and the Horse Drawn Trolley. First up is a close up shot of the trolley.

Next up is a longer distance view showing Main Street with the horse drawn trolley approaching.

By popular demand here is the Disneyland Railroad slide in the three dimension.

1955 In Natural Color Part 1

Two views of Disneyland in late 1955 from two Realist 3-D slides. First up is the CK Holliday outfitted as the freight train stopped at the Frontierland Train Station. The EP Ripley pulling the passenger train is passing the stopped train.

A rare view of the mildly landscaped Canal Boats of the World passing another stopped train, this time the Casey Junior Railroad. I wonder what the cast members are discussing?

Sawyer's Souvenir Slides of Nature's Wonderland

Once upon a time at Disneyland there was a fun audio animatronic animal filled ride that went through forests, deserts and caverns. And once upon a time, these slides were in full color. However both have disappeared, the ride being replaced by a roller coaster style wild train and the slides turning red. First up is the cavern.

Next up is the forest.

The final image is the desert.

Things From the Gate- Mickey Mouse Club Ticket Brochure

A nice ticket brochure from 1963 featuring the KTTV Los Angeles only version of the Mickey Mouse Club. The club's headquarters was located in the Opera House in the time period. I love that Roy Williams is prominently featured. The brochure is just dated 10-63 and does not have a number.

Sea World Seal Show

Presented by Royal Crown Cola at Sea World was the Seal and Walrus show. The theater has a fantastic mod design to the architecture and the set pieces are very cute. I also enjoy the crowd watching the show. Do they still make Royal Crown Cola?

Souvenir Friday- Disneyland Party

In the mid 1960's Hallmark manufactured and sold a set of party supplies featuring Disneyland. Here are two of the pieces. First up is the party invitations with a graphic Castle and Matterhorn design. I love the detail of the Swans in the moat.

Bridge was a popular game to play at parties. Of course, you would need to keep score so there was a bridge tally manufactured.

Four Views of Sea World

Two neat views of my favorite Dolphin Show. I always enjoyed this show when I watched it as it had some slapstick humor, some nice acrobatic dolphins and fire. In the background is the Hawaiian Punch village where one could purchase a nice cold tropical drink.

Next up is the tropical bird island. I do not remember this and it looks rather stark. The building reminds me of San Onofre Nuclear Energy Generating station.

One of my strongest memories is the Japanese Pearl Diving Pavilion. I was always intrigued by the Koi and the pearl divers. And of course the fantastic and funky Japanese candies. Another memory is that my brother ended up with a large wood sliver from the dock. He was not happy to go to first aid and ran away. We eventually found him and he had the sliver removed by one of the nurses in the First Aid station.

1960 Disneyland Trip Part 2

Another interesting batch of slides from 1960. First up is a nice and unusual photo of Fantasyland from the steps to the Fantasyland Skyway station.

Things From the Gate- Papotin's Revue Ticket Brochure

Continuing with the orange colored Wonderful Ways to Visit Disneyland brochures, today I feature the 1963 brochure with the graphics for Andre Tahon's Papotin's Revue show. The number on this is 23 and is dated 7/1963. This used to be a fairly common brochure, but I still have not seen one for sale in a while.

1960 Disneyland Trip Part 1

A lovely group of slides taken on a trip to Disneyland in 1960. First up is a very crowded Columbia. Also look in the background and see the line on Castle Rock on Tom Sawyer's Island.

To escape the crowd, the family boarded the Skyway. I love the copper cabin in the front of the photographer.

Final image for today is a great shot of Monorail Red over the Submarine Voyage lagoon.

Three Photos

Three photographs taken by the same camera at three different amusement parks. All of the images are small size, measuring about 1.5 by 1.5 inches in size. All I found were these three photographs in the group of photographs. First up is Knott's Berry Farm.

Next is Frankenstein's Laboratory at Universal Studios in Hollywood.

Final image is of course Disneyland. Of course Mr. Mouse posing for photographs.

Souvenir Friday- Pacific Ocean Park Employee Patch and Button

Two employee items from the Disneyland competitor in Santa Monica and a now lost park, Pacific Ocean Park. First up is a patch worn on a white shirt. Most of the images of this patch in use are from the Sea Circus.

The next item is an ID badge button. The buttons were individually numbered and worn by employees. I believe most of these were worn by the employees in the midway area where the carnival games were set up.

Royal American Shows Calliope

Fantastic vintage circus calliope at a fair. Note the same outfit worn by the young lady in this post of Indian and Model. Calliope has a great design. Painted on the front is Royal American Shows.
