In honor of Disneyland's 55th Birthday, I present my choice for oddest souvenir...soap from the Swift's Market House. However the manufacture of soap at the time did use beef fat as an ingredient and Swifts was one of the major slaughter houses at the time and had a ready source of beef fat. So one of Swift and Company had set up a soap making business to use this source of raw material. The box still has the original 6 bars of soap.
That is odd! And I bet in a pinch, they could be used to make beef stew!
ReplyDeleteAh! The early 60s. It was a strange time when people were actually proud of science, and you could put "Hexachlorophene" right on the front without flinching. Now of course, you'd have the usual blather about "a sustainable balance of diverse natural products..." Like Lanolin and Hexachlorophene.
ReplyDeleteBTW, if Hexachlorophene sounds familar, it's because it's the active ingredient in the old "pHysoHex" antibacterial soap from the same period.
What does it smell like? haha, It's one of those things I'm curious about...Does it have the typical "hotel" type soap smell, or some other flowery scent?
ReplyDeleteTom- it smells like old ladies soap, very floral but also strong...definitely a 1950s kind of smell.
