The cover and short one page article on a picnic by the veterans and old timers of the Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad. Of course they rode the train at Lakeside as seen by the cover. I am a big proponent of frequenting and supporting local amusement parks and Lakeside has kept its charm and look. I am looking forward to hitting the park this weekend to see how the off season treated the park. I hope it looks as good as it does in these images.
Is the little train still there? Seems strange to see the covered gondolas, since most places had them uncovered. There's something about that page of photos that reminds me of the "Backstage" magazines that Disneyland employees received.
ReplyDeleteLakeside is on our list for a visit this summer. First time. Any pointers or suggestions?
ReplyDeleteHey Major- Train is still at the park...but now pulled by a diesel engine.
ReplyDeleteOTB- Lakeside is best seen at night when the lights are all lit.
Great seeing those other rides, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat scale is that train? It seems to be between most small ride-on steamers and the bigger ones at Disneyland.
And now for another connection: Rio Grande Industries, the parent company of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad also owned it's own theme park at one time - Frontier Village in San Jose, as well as Arrow, the company that produced many theme park attractions. Small world, ain't it?
