A week ago or so, Tim from Vintage Disneyland Tickets posted this
1961 TV Guide with information and article about the Bell Telephone Hour The Sounds of America TV Special. This is a nice tie in of a die cut standee that would have been placed at Bell Telephone Centers and other shops to promote the special. The special was a musical set in Disneyland and the dancers, singers and actors ride the train around the park.
Tune in tomorrow for some publicity stills from the special as well. Tim- if you still need a copy of the video, I have one as well.
This is awesome! Love the graphics!
ReplyDeleteI just got a copy of the Bell Hour show from Don Ballard (thank you for the offer though), I'm going to watch it tonight. I'm going to try and convert it (or parts of it) and post it on my blog, unless of course it stinks :-)
Thanks!
This is a great item!
ReplyDeleteSo many Disneyland specials involve lots of singing and dancing - I guess that was just the nature of television in those days, but they seem pretty dull to me now.
Hey check with Dan I sold him a light up die cut standee years ago promoting this show . As I remember it had the info and had the train with a light up headlight
ReplyDeleteI sold the sign to Jordan R. recently.
ReplyDeleteYou sure did, Dan...and thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed at what surfaces from this special. I have a promotional record in a picture sleeve that was also released to radio stations that consists of the raw music from the show.
The question I have is, does anyone know for sure if this was shot on video? Color video broadcasts actually date from the mid 50s. It's just incredible that COLOR VIDEO exists of Disneyland from 1961.
My copy is pretty rough. Does anyone have a clear version of the show?
