Dated October 1955, this is an unusual publicity still. I love how both Frontierland and Tommorowland are on Main Street. Also, K-7 the Kaiser Aluminum Astronaut is sitting next to one of the TWA Hostesses for the Rocket to the Moon. Be sure and look at the crowd reaction.
What an awesome photo! So great to see those characters from other "lands" on the Horse Drawn Streetcar.
ReplyDeleteThat's certainly a motley crew! I've noticed that only ladies handle the trolley/horses these days (I've also noticed they are usual pretty cute too, the ladies, not the horses!).
ReplyDeleteDid the Butcher Shop really sell meat? I'll take 1/2 pound of ground round to go with my fish I caught in the river...
Channeling Artie Johnson from Laugh-In: Verrrrry interesting!
ReplyDeleteVDT: I haven't found anything that explicitly says it sold meat in the early years, but this is from a 1974 Disneyland Line (emphasis mine):
ReplyDelete"An enormous oak chopping block sits in the corner and wooden freezer doors line the back wall. Looks like it might have been a meat market once upon a time you say? Very true. Years ago, Swift Meat Company and C & H Sugar used to share the building as two of the Park's lessees. Now the Market House is a museum/display case/shop that sells merchandise and foodstuffs that would take your grandmother back to her courting days."
