New York Worlds Fair- Part 7

Just two more installments from this collection of photographs from the 1939 New York Worlds Fair. The collection was purchased as a vintage photo album. First up is a nice abstract photograph taken from the second floor of an exhibit hall. If anyone knows where this was taken, let me know.

Next up is one of the many fountains scattered throughout the fairgrounds.

Final image is of the photographers sister standing in front of the statue Europa sculpted by Gleb W. Derujinsky.

  1. Hmmm, that first pic is a head scratcher. I don't think that there were too many buildings that would have afforded a high vantage point like that, but am still not sure where it is.

  2. Well, what is the internet for if not wild speculation? I'm going to suggest that that first picture is actually a photograph looking up at a polished sheet metal ceiling with a hole in the center. Because it's a semi-mirror, you can see the image of the floor, with a circular fence and people lined up along it looking at something.

If I could compound my shaky hypothesis with wild speculation, was there a Foucault pendulum on display a the Fair? If so, this might be it.

Easy. That's a photo of the highly polished ceiling of the Dharma station called the Lamppost.

  4. Well, it certainly does look like the ceiling of an exhibit. There are aspects to it that resemble the 'Immortal Well' portion of the Westinghouse building. Only a guess but that's my 'final answer'. How's that for conviction?

    Really enjoying these!
