Next up is the program from the Fifth Annual Dixieland at Disneyland event. Check out the groups performing as well as the production crew. I would love to have seen the scenic design by Roland Crump. (And I am looking for programs from the 1st Annual as well as the Third and Fourth....)
A nice addition to this is the ticket signed by Kid Ory. Kid Ory was one of the best and earliest trombone players in Jazz. He started a band in New Orleans in 1912 and continued playing Dixieland for the rest of his life.
Truly incredible and historic musical Disneyland. This era, in my opinion, was Disneyland's finest.
ReplyDeleteThere was so much great music their during the sixties. And I can say that I saw and heard most of it.
Thanks for this great post. Brings back lots of very cool memories. Appreciated as always, Richard.
FANTASTIC stuff, I don't have a single "Dixieland at Disneyland" item. LOVE that poster (how rare can that be??), and the signed ticket is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI still remember a certain person (you'll know who I mean!) who showed me a stack of unused tickets from Dixieland shows, every variation (Adult, Junior, Child)...
David - That poster is very rare. It was hanging in Ward Kimball's Barn, and back in the 90s the "E" Ticket boys borrowed it. They made three full-size photographic prints, and Leon was nice enough to sell me the third one. I've never seen it elsewhere!
ReplyDeleteI am dying to see sets for this now! I had no idea Rolly worked on this - I'll see if he took any pics or kept sketches.
Well, that's a new one! So great.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the look.
