Making the Jungle Cruise Animals 1954- Never Smile at a Crocodile

Today I feature the creation of the crocodiles that are always looking for a hand out. I believe this is Bob Mattey working on the jaw of the crocodile. From the angle of the photo, it appears he is doing his best impression of an alligator wrestler.

A larger image showing the work shop and the full animal. Up in the upper right hand corner is one of the tentacles from the 20,000 Leagues giant squid.

Final image today is of another young actress posing with one of the animals outside. Reminds me of the Peter Pan song "Never Smile at a Crocodile."

  1. These are great, but I have to admit that my favorite detail is the giant squid in the background!

  2. Is that worker wearing alligator shoes!

  3. It's amazing to think of all the history in those buildings. Too often when walking the lot you tend to only think of the classic film work.

  4. May just be my bad memory, but I recall doing some research in the photo library and that these women were contestants in a beauty pageant of some sort. Which is why there was a bunch of young pretty girls around for these shots. Probably just bad memory.

That's Bob Mattey once again. Just in front of Mattey in photo two, Chris Mueller is in the BG with his hat on. This is an interesting series of photos, I've seen more from this day. There was even 16mm footage that was shot, part of which appears in the Imagineers DVD from a couple of years ago. Great stuff!
