One of my earliest fascinations with Disneyland was with the varying sponsors. I was intrigued by the way in which sponsors used their Disneyland presence in advertising and promotion. Some used to sponsor contests, others used their presence as incentives for their employees, and some used it to advertise their national products. The following two items represent the latter use. First off is an envelope featuring advertising for Global Van Lines as the Official Disneyland Movers. This is fairly early in Global's connection to Disneyland.
The second is a sheet of stickers advertising the same thing. I believe they were created around the same time period.
For those looking to remember Michael Jackson and his connection to Disney, check out Vintage Disneyland Tickets and OC Historical blogs for some postings. Although not a huge fan, his music was everywhere making it a part of my teenage memories and I do feel sympathy for his kids.
I was always puzzled by the 'official movers of Disneyland', what did they need moved?
ReplyDeleteIs that old-fashioned White Out covering the address? Did you remember to pay Micky Dolenz his royalties?
ReplyDeleteMatt, everyone knows that Disneyland is just a front for the mob; there were plenty of dead bodies that needed to be moved and disposed of!
ReplyDeleteHey Global used to have their headquarters building just on the other side of the north berm sandwiched between the park and the Santa Ana Fwy.
ReplyDeleteKatella- no that is new fashioned eraser in photoshop on the label. Anonymous- yes I remember the Global headquarters location. Matt- I think there were lots of sets and other items for when Disneyland went out on tour to promote the park (i.e. character shows with the Disneyland Ambassador.) Of course it is just like being the Official Mover for the Olympics...mainly just an advertising gimmick.
ReplyDeleteNice! Have never seen these.
ReplyDeletePatrick -- didn't Michael Jackson once buy some stuff from you at a show?
ReplyDeleteMicky Dolenz?
ReplyDeleteBette Nesmith Graham, the inventor of Liquid Paper (originally called Mistake Out), was Michael Nesmith's mother.
Sheesh. ;—)
Dolenz? Nesmith? Oops, Sorry - all those Monkees look alike to me.
ReplyDeleteHi... just happen to cross your site... I see that you also love Disney... me too...
