Skyway over Tomorrowland
Two nice views of the Skyway over Tomorrowland. These are from stereo views, let me know if you want me to post them in stereo.
I wonder if there was ever a plan for a more ornate Fantasyland Station? That one is so little it's barely there, kind of like the Tomorrowland Station. I guess its just as well, since the Fantasyland station was torn down in the 60's.
It was a colorized "slurry" that was applied with squeegees. It had a rubbery feel, and also a black-top smell. I remember it being done every season. The Flight Circle took a while because of the multi-colors. That smell in the summer is a memory of Disneyland that I will never forget.
Thanks Matterhorn for the great pictures. This is one of my favorite blogs! I loved the Skyway. It still ticks me off that they got rid of it. It was so much fun to see the park from above, and to get a little rest as well.
Oh my, these are awesome! Plenty of vintage fence in the first one! I want the Slurry back, also applying it with squeegees sound fun. Thanks for these gems.
Nice slides Matterhorn! I never quite got my bearings as to how the different Autopias were laid out in relation to each other, but this gives me a pretty good all-in-one shot reference to figure it out.
These are great. Nothing like vintage Disneyland pictures. Looks like the had a wreck at the Junior Autopia. Thanks Matterhorn, always appreciated.

ReplyDeleteLooks like they are working on the Casey Jones tracks again. BTW, the grey-green color of the "blacktop" looks just great.
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody know if it was asphalt? That's what I remember, but I was pretty young then.
