The Mary Blair Murals Tomorrowland

In 1968 the visitor could see the wonderful Mary Blair Mural's on the wall at the entrance to Tomorrowland. As you entered the land, the mural on the right focused on energy and the mural on the left focused on communication. For more information on the murals check out . The first image shows the Energy side.

And this is the communication side.

The last image shows a beauty shot of the front of Tomorrowland with the fresh and colorful Peoplemover and Goofy signing autographs. For Outside the Berm, it appears the planters had solid tubing and there is not any bubbles in the tubes.

  1. Thanks for the images, Matterhorn. The stories of the 'bubbles in the tubes' seem to come from the first few opening days of 'New Tomorrowland' in '67. Not clear glass tubes exactly, but a smokey color one could see through when up close. The story is that those tubes were replaced rather quickly.
Anyway, that's the memory of some. True or not? We're still searching.

  3. Hmm, I don't think I ever heard about the clear tubes for the fountain... but it's an interesting story! Now I'll be on the lookout.

These are some SUPER nice pcitures, Matterhorn! That Peoplemover shot, zowie.

  4. I don't remember the fountain pylons being anything other than metal struts. I had a particular facination for water fountains at that age (ca. 1966-1970) and I'm sure I'd remember anything as "trick" as a bubbler in clear plastic pipes.

I DO remember being really pissed off when they were converted into giant planters.

BTW, was this done because of the upkeep problems of keeping the aluminum backdrop clean of massive hard water scale?

Such great pics - thank you!!!

I grew up in Florida w/ the similar WDW version of the 70s/80s and have such fond memories, but now living in Cali it's so painful to see the disgraceful Tomorrowland they have there currently and look back on how amazing and exciting it used to be! Most especially those empty Peoplemover tracks just sitting there all alone. :,(

A lap or two around Tomorrowland in the middle of a crazy day is always such a relaxing relief from the hordes of people, it's a shame they haven't gotten their act together and found a replacement!
