An early park participant and sponsor was Bekins Van Lines. The iconic horse drawn wagon was usually parked in front of their space which served as the lockers area. Bekins was replaced shortly after this photo was taken by Global Van Lines who moved in just adjacent to Disneyland. The locker site is now part of the Emporium and the Global Van Lines offices are now the Team Disney building.
I wonder if the concept of renting a locker for the day had been around for a while at that point? I'm trying to think where else that would have been necessary. Maybe airports or train stations?
ReplyDeleteGreat detail pic Matterhorn. If I remember correctly, the lost and found dept. was also inside the building.
ReplyDeleteMajor: Re the lockers, I recall scriptwriters using train station lockers as a plot device in film noir, so that puts the concepts back to the 40's at least. As far as Disneyland actually having lockers, I bet that information would show up in early gate pieces.
