Esther did not caption any of the photographs today. The images are of the shops on Main Street in the early morning. Some wonderful Main Street images. The first is of the Candy Palace and the Coke Corner. I think a business college over a candy store would be tough as the students would be hungry every day.
The second image is of the Penny Arcade. I have shown a detail with a nice sign from the lamppost which I have never noticed before.
The final image is of the Carnation restaurant and Ice Cream parlor.
Imagine how great it would have been had Esther had a color camera! But these are great documentary photographs nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteI want an apartment on the top floor of the old Carnation building!!
ReplyDeleteNeato Sign post in front of the Arcade, I think the top one says "Penny Arcade", what does the bottom one say?
ReplyDeleteOk, I will ask, how many pages are left, wait - don't tell me, then maybe it will never end!
Thank you for posting this entire photo album. Truly appreciated here!
i an still just overwhelmed by this album. i so wish i could go back to this place and this time. it must have been the most extraordinary experience(s) one could have had. just think, they probably thought it was just another day at the office.
ReplyDeleteV.D.T., I think that the second little sign says "Ticket Booth" or "Ticket Books", since tickets were sold in the Arcade.
ReplyDeleteI used to love going to the Carnation Ice Cream Parlor. Wouldn't it be nice to still have THAT around?
ReplyDeleteI can remember sitting there with my wife and little-to-big kids so many times...Sharing a Matterhorn Sundae and watching the Main Street Electrical Parade go by.
Thank you for offering up Esther's album for all to see. What became of Esther? Has anyone done the homework? Sorry if you mentioned this earlier somewhere...
