The second image is captioned Louie and Mary Jane. Louie is wearing a brass first name tag on his custodial uniform. From the looks of things, Mary Jane must have been a lot of fun to be around.
The third image is captioned Minnie and Mickey Mouse. Miehana will enjoy this image.
Finally the last photo on the page. The caption is Trinidad. He was the star member of the Disneyland Sanitation service.
These are awesome shots!
ReplyDeleteYep, Mary Jane looks like she had a lot of personality! The early Mickey and Minnie character photo is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI also really like the photo of the kid (Chris Evans), what could he be, 14 or 15? It must have been kind of fun to go to work and get into a vintage outfit.
Sorry to tell you, but the brass employee badge did NOT have names, but employee numbers. They were turned in, and melted down, years ago. I still have mine.
ReplyDeleteWow, the white-winged Trinidad. What a wonderful picture of a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteThis series just keeps gettin' better. "Chris Evans Sells Guide Books" is a classic!
ReplyDeleteI knew Chris and Steve, sold the DL guidebooks also... Steve Vosburg
DeleteCox pilot- I should have explained the first name badges better. The employees were issued numbered badges with no names. The first badges are made out of fairly heavy brass and were made by the LA Stamp company. The badges changed from brass to aluminum about the middle of 1956 and still had no names, just numbers. The only employees who had names on the early badges were supervisors and above. Isn't a picture of your name badge on Daveland's website?
ReplyDeleteYes! And probably it's one of the aluminum ones. I've used the badge, my old ID card, my demonstrator "business card", my old Cox wings (from Wally Wins His Wings movie), and my little Babe Bee engine tie clip, along with a lot of photos. These are all in a shadow box I built last year, and it was all inspired by Dave (and people like you) with these wonderful web sights and blogs. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOutstanding images...what's the vehicle in the background behind Tinidad?
ReplyDeleteMatterhon these are great images indeed.
ReplyDeleteDavid, are you asking about the Carnation Truck or Surrey pulled by the horses?
Hey Matterhorn is it true that Trinidad was the only one to sport a mustache after the grooming standards went into full swing?
And I loved Van France's story about Trinidad being paid overtime for the Spring Tonic of '56, pretending to sweep up the poop being spewed by supervision in the closing segment. He was paid straight time after he proved to be such a hit. Keep them coming Matterhon!
I also sold guide books with Steve Martin and Chris Evans as did my brothers Stan and Cliff Vosburg. After work I would go over to Tomorrowland and watch you guys fly those U control planes. One show I volunteered and flew the pt-19 trainer. My instructor holding out about three times for me until I got the hang of it when he tipped me to give it a little down when I headed into the wind. I was able to land it but rather roughly.
