Things From the Gate- 3 Versions of the 1956 Gate Brochure

The second year gate brochure features the more recognizable Tinkerbell on the cover. The year featured change on Main Street, leading to three versions of this brochure. First up is the cover, interior pages and the fold out map. These are all the same for all three versions.

Now for the variations. The list of exhibits on Main Street change three times...I have placed the brochures in the order they were published.

A note to the Major- I am still looking for the scholastic version of the 1955 gate brochure. I know I have it....

The gate brochure from 1963. Some minor changes from 1962 and a new color.

Things From the Gate- 1958 Gate Map Brochure

One of the more commonly found gate map brochures is the 1958 gate map. The brochure was created late being dated June 1, 1958 and handed out until 1960. As far as I can tell there was no brochure dated 1959.

Notice the new attractions are highlighted.

Things From the Gate- Pirates of the Caribbean Opening Brochure

To advertise the opening of one of Disneyland's greatest attractions in 1967, Disneyland handed out this nice gate brochure. The front features the iconic auctioneer, while the interior features scenes from the ride as well as advertising for the Blue Bayou restaurant. The kid sitting in the front wearing the mouse ears looks kind of like Charles Phoenix. The back is blank backed.

Looking like the 1956 gate map brochures, the 1957 is slightly smaller. However the same features are found on the brochure.

Things From the Gate- Two More Summer 1960 Gate Brochures

Two more Summer 1960 ticket brochures. First up is the second version of the 1960 brochure as it does not have the June 10th date and ticket prices have increased as compared to the last ticket brochure poster.

I am just showing the back of this brochure as the front and interior pages are the same. This is one of my favorite of this series. I wish I could have gone to the Dixieland at Disneyland events.

Things From the Gate- 4th Annual Dixieland at Disneylant Ticket Brochure

Another 1963 brochure is this nice one featuring advertisement for the 1963 4th Annual Dixieland at Disneyland. Brochure is dated 9/63. Cute graphics as usual on the brochure. There is just something about the late 1950s and 1960s spot art.

Things From the Gate-1963 Orange Tiki Room Brochure

Another brochure for the Tiki Room is the orange colored brochure. There are two versions of this brochure, this one with Papotin's Revue on the back cover and one that is blank backed. The interior images are the same.

Things From the Gate- 1957 Advertising Brochure

In 1957, Disneyland published a magazine named Disneyland Holiday to distribute to the various motels and hotels in the Southern California area. In addition, the marketing department created a new advertising brochure which used the same interior photos as the centerfold of the new magazine, as well as the map from the back cover. The first brochure has a pink cover and features much the same information as the previous brochure.

Things From the Gate- Crane in Disneyland

So this is not really from the Main Gate, but it is a fantastic brochure. In 1955, Crane was a sponsor in Tomorrowland and their exhibit was the Bathroom of Tomorrow. The entrance had a fun interactive fountain as shown on the front cover.

The interior shows a couple of different bathrooms of tomorrow.

This little piece is part of the brochure and lists the Crane products used.

The back cover features some of the dioramas and displays once you had seen the bathroom of tomorrow.

Souvenir Friday- Palace of Living Art and Japanese Village

A nice brochure from the Palace of Living Art next to the Movieland Wax Museum. The brochure lists every statue and piece of living art.

Inside the brochure is this fantastic double sided advertisement for Japanese Village. I really like the illustration with the Torii gate.

Things From the Gate- 1955 Map Brochure

Starting in 1955 as you entered Disneyland you would receive a brochure featuring a nice map of the park along with descriptions of each land with the attractions described and a restaurant guide. The first one features Doc from Snow White.

Kids could take the brochure home and color the map.

Nice listing of the various restaurants and snack locations throughout the park. Happy is very happy while eating.

Things From the Gate- Enchanted Tiki Room Brochure

The best Enchanted Tiki Room Brochure is this green one with fantastic graphics of tikis, birds and the fountain as well as the description of the unique attraction. This is one of the first public places where the WED logo was seen and also features the head of Walt on the reverse. Always a popular brochure when one comes up for sale.

Things From the Gate- Educational Brochure 1956

Disneyland pretty quickly found out that many groups wanted to visit Disneyland. In order to make the park more attractive to school groups, Disneyland created a program and brochure to entice teachers to visit the park with their classes. I love some of the benefits the group could receive (a free ride on the Mark Twain or one of the Disneyland Trains, free parking, lectures by the sponsors especially in Tomorrowland) as well as the educational aspects of each land (history in Frontierland, natural history in Adventureland, civics and government in Main Street, literature in Fantasyland.)
